A little paranoid ...

1. It does appear on the KS Mobile forum and here on the Clean Master thread.
2. On GP they claim to use the #1 Mobile antivirus engine, and as answered before, they use the KingSoft Mobile Antivirus engine.
KS Mobile - KingSoft Mobile (anyone making the link already)
3. Do a search on Clean Master, you will find several sites reviewing KingSoft Clean Master in the first release.

Sorry, but how can you trust the "1st Android Antivirus" which does'nt have a "real" webpage as CleanMaster ?
The number 1 Antivirus is not enough important to stay next the CleanMaster and Battery Doctor on their website?
Really ?
By the way, the KingSoft AV is not the very first one, Avast is more secure, (check any virus bulletin) and is also free and has an anti theeft functionality that the "CM Security" does'nt have and many more.
How can they use the antivirus engine of KingSoft freely as this antivirus cost 19,80 € ? Can you explain this ? I'm very curious !
Why is there 3 or more websites as explained by [Agent 47], hu ? And no one can put a special page to CM Security ? The first Antivirus on Android ? ...
Sorry, do what you want but my paranoid side say me "be carefull, this could be a fake antivirus containing a real virus or malware". If not, i will miss a great application cause I should admit the design is impressive and the speed too, but if I'm right you've installed a malware on your android device ...

Really, you don't see the link KS Mobile -> KingSoft Mobile ?
On Itunes store Battery Doctor developer is KingSoft Mobile Bejing, and on Google Play KS Mobile.
On the Clean Master G+ page you can see people complaining about Clean Master asking to install CM Security and the advertising.
I do not think Clean Master would integrate Cm Security in to the app if it wasn't their own app....
Oh well, let the developer make a nice statement about all that i would say.

Hahaha, in London, in a "all at one pound" store, I finded a Panasoanic radio. The guy who make this radio just added a letter (o) to the well know company Panasonic logo to try to make more client.
If you're trying to make a virus and would like many people install it on their PC / Device, I'm sure you will give it a name like a giant.
Ex:
Avaast <=> Avast
Mac Afee <=> Mc Afee
Nortonn Antivirus <=> Norton Antivirus
...
There is so many example on the net and many poeple fall in these malware because they does'nt see the small difference.

I have a question . I have always been a fan of clean master so when cm security was released I was quick to install but with the past updates to clean master it seems that both apps are the same should I just keep 1 or still both

At his time Clean Master does not protect real-time when surfing the web.
So If CM Security is installed, the security options ate grayed out in Clean Master, an Security does the protection.

It'll be really nice if the devs would release a virus database update every once in a while. It's been weeks since the last update database update was released,

This app is VERY shady. When you first run a scan, it always finds a so called "problem", apparently, a vulnerability in your sms log. Scareware tactics. Scare the user into thinking CM Security found a problem that no other antivirus could find, when the problem isn't even a real problem.
Also, recently, while visiting a torrent site on my phone a javascript popup appeared saying that I was infected with 3 porn site viruses and I should have downloaded CM Security and CleanMaster to fix it. Again, scareware.

Finally, I googled for android malware, and downloaded the shadiest and obvioulsy malware one, put it on my phone, and guess what, CM security didn't find anything. Avast on my PC flagged the file as a malicious android program , and also Avast on the phone found it instantly.

I say, don't trust this app. If you want proof, I can send you a screenshot of the scareware message, and to the malware apk I downloaded for testing.

It is very serious allegation. Do you want to say that 5 000 000 - 10 000 000 users have been cheated? If so, it would be one of the biggest IT scam ever. While I agree that simpleness and speed of this application is suspicious I don't believe that developers of famous and highly rated applications (Clean Master and Battery Doctor) would recourse to such shadow practices.

Anyway, a decent clarification of someone from CM Security would be highly appreciated.

Just download some malware off the internet on purpose and test it. Maybe the one I tried wasn't recognized but it recognizes everything else?
Try one of the malware apks on this page:
http://contagiodump.blogspot.it/2011/03/take-sample-leave-sample-mobile-malware.html

This is REAL malware so make sure you know what you're doing if you decide to install one of these apks (they are password protected so there's no way to install them by accident anyway). All of these apks are detected by Avast on the PC, so you know they are a real threat.

For the SMS vulnerability, maybe it's a real security issue, from what I understand, CM Security will protect your SMS so that malicious apps won't plant fake sms in your SMS list, but then again, why does the app makes such a big deal of it, when you just have to flip a switch in the app to solve it? Two other switches, one for real time protection and one for internet protection are turned on automatically. I've seen on reviews people mentioning that this app was superior to the rest because it found a problem others couldn't find and therefore it's superior, so it seems the scareware tactic is working.

And here's the scareware popup that I got while visiting a torrent site, it's in italian, but it says that my phone was infected by 3 viruses coming from adult websites, and that I have to install CleanMaster to fix.

This IS scareware:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scareware

A tactic frequently used by criminals involves convincing users that a virus has infected their computer, then suggesting that they download fake antivirus software to remove it. Usually the virus is entirely fictional and the software is non-functional or malware itself.

I'm not accusing them of being a fraud or anything like that. I'm just saying that to me this looks shady. I also have to admit that I'm very paranoid in general, especially when it comes to this kind of stuff.

Maybe someone with more free time should conduct a more comprehensive investigation on this matter. Maybe I'm just being paranoid, and I don't think the software is malware, but what if it's non functional? Gullible users would think they are protected when in reality they aren't.

Made more tests with 3 malwares installed and guess what, CM Security doesn't find anything other than its fake threats about internet protection and SMS vulnerability.

You decide for yourself if you want to trust this app. I for one won't.

Thanks Mark for sharing your findings.

Do you really think that prestigious AV-Test would have included to their testing a fake AV solution and moreover they have labelled it as one of the best Android security solutions? Please see at http://www.av-test.org/en/tests/mobile-devices/android/jan-2014/

Then why doesn't it find anything? Maybe it's because I tested it in an emulator? Why don't you test it on your phone? Install some malware on your phone and test it, see if it finds anything. From what I can tell it doesn't find anything. I don't use any antivirus on my phone anyway, common sense is enough for me, I don't need to hog my phone's memory with useless apps like antiviruses on a phone. Like I said before I could be wrong, but if I were to use any antivirus software I wouldn't use this one until someone finds out that it actually does anything other than scaring the user.

Still doesn't matter for me as they are using scareware tactics. I'm not supporting any company that uses this kind of techniques.

If you want to keep using this or CleanMaster, feel free.

Mark, it is your fight with CM Security, not mine. I just put some comments/questions to your posts, which I thought they could support that CM Security is not a fake. Of course its efficiency in protecting mobile devices might be questionable but it is the same with all security solutions regardless OS platform. No one is perfect. However if we consider the best results from independent AV laboratories and satisfaction of millions of users why I should be worried. Sorry, end of story for me.

Not a malware

Hi,

As a sceptic about this Antivirus, and as a paranoid, I've investigated a little about it.
Now I can say that it's not a malware.

The engine used by this antivirus is (that's true) the same as Kingsoft. This is the Antiy Engine (ht tp: //ww w.antiy.net) which is, by the way, used on some others antivirus (LBE Security Master, Fuji Xerox, Venus Tech).

The APK itself is not recognised as malware by other Antivirus.

So, all my apologies to the developpers for my previous posts.

But why the developpers doesn't came here to answer all our questions to avoid this paranoia ?
Why this antivirus doesn't detect any virus as explained in previous posts ?

Some questions need to be clarified.

So, long life to CM Security

Looking for free AV replacement for Avast which is starting to get annoyingly obtrusive and also is very heavy on recources.

Three free standouts concerning light on recources, great rating on AV-test I found are

-Bitdefender Free (only scans new apps when installing them)

-360 Security (terrible UI, always toolbar in notification area, other 360 version nicer app but heavy on recources)

-CM

I want to choose CM of these 3. But I just don't understand how a scan of apps with CM only takes a few seconds. Doubt it really scans. And miss permanent notification icon to see the app is indeed running

TrustGo I liked most as app of free AV-apps and also one of best in AV-test. However needs twice to tripple more Ram than Bitdefender Free, 360 Security and CM. Lookout also too much recources

SMS phishing Vulnerability

Hello:

The "SMS Phishing Vulnerability" means your android system has a Vulnerability(flaw), which can be used by other application on your phone to insert an incoming SMS to your inbox, the content and sender could be arbitrary, this will be very dangerous, if it's exploited by malware. And fix solution of CM Security is dynamic protection, while malware trying to use this system's flaw and send fake SMS to you, CM Security will help you to block it and remind you it's not a real SMS from the SMS's sender.

Hopes it's clear for you to understand this flaw and our solution. If any problem, feel free to contact us.

For the shortcut on home screen, we'll take a look into it. thanks for your feedback.

CM Security

If I click on the SMS phishing vulnerability fix then days later uninstall your app will the vulnerability that was found still be fixed?
I am concered that a particular sender will be blocked on my phone because of this, can you reassure.
